Canucks playing in their 3rd jerseys

Who knows if Mats Sundin will be back, but it looks like the Canucks’ 3rd jerseys – the modified stick-and-rink logo with the Johnny Canuck patch – will be. The Canucks are scheduled to wear it in 15 games this season:

  • October 7 vs. Montreal Canadiens
  • October 24 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
  • November 3 vs. New York Rangers
  • November 22 vs. Chicago Blackhawks
  • November 29 vs. San Jose Sharks
  • December 10 vs. Atlanta Thrashers
  • December 16 vs. Anaheim Ducks
  • December 26 vs. Edmonton Oilers
  • January 9 vs. Calgary Flames
  • January 16 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
  • January 25 vs. Buffalo Sabres
  • March 13 vs. Ottawa Senators
  • March 20 vs. Detroit Red Wings
  • March 30 vs. Phoenix Coyotes
  • April 6 vs. Colorado Avalanche

15 games is not enough. The Canucks should wear them for at least 25 games. The third sweaters should be worn full-time. However, I’ve heard rumours that the full-body Johnny Canuck logo will be the official new crest of the team after the Olympics. Likely the 2010-11 season. That would be sweet!

Those should be the main jerseys. Everyone I know without exception thinks the rink & stick is a better logo.

@Andre – Yea thats exactly what the cancuks need, ANOTHER jersey/logo change. When I think of the Canucks, 5 different logos come to mind. When are they going to settle on one and just be happy with it.

@Matt – The day the Canucks settle on one crest and be happy with it will be the day when they make the full-body Johnny Canuck logo the primary. Let’s face it – the Orca was a big mistake. Had Arthur Griffiths taken Francesco Aquilini in as a partner instead of John McCaw and his Orca Bay empire, Johnny Canuck and not the Orca, would have replaced the Skate logo. Matter of fact, Johnny Canuck should have been the Canucks’ crest from Day One.

Boy, did those thirds look great in the Canucks’ 7-1 blowout of the Habs!

As the Johnny Canuck logo was the Vancouver Canucks original logo I think this should be at the very least Vancouver’s third jersey. A predominantly green jersey with Johnny Canuck (perhaps skating in front of a large “V”) would probably sell fairly well around the league too, which would help the Canucks pay a few bills I think :-).
