WWMGD – A Contest for Canucks Open Practice Tickets

Not that we’re pressing the panic button (yet) but there are certainly some troubling things ailing the 0-3 Vancouver Canucks. What would Mike Gillis do? What would you do? I shared my thoughts on this topic this morning and now it’s time you share yours.
For your troubles, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the Canucks Open Practice this Saturday at 11:00 AM. The seats are in section 118, row 1 – that’s ice level next to the benches folks!
To get your name in the draw, let us know what you think the Canucks should do to right the ship. You can leave a comment below this post. If you want to comment via Twitter, make sure you use the hashtag #CHB. We’ll pick out a winner – random draw – tomorrow night after the Habs game.
[update: October 8, 2009, 8:03 AM]
Thank you everyone for your tweets and comments. After a random draw, the winner of the Open Practice Tickets is… VanCity Allie!
Stay tuned – we’ve got another pair of tickets to give out.
What Canucks need to do to get back on track is basically work on a little bit of everything. Goaltending, Offence, Defence. One thing I noticed more this year is how the players are shooting. All I’ve heard during the past 3 games were, WIDE! DANIEL SHOOTS WIDE! Thats one key point that could get the Canucks back on track. Shooting more from the net and creating more rebounds can put the Canucks back on top. Now Goaltending is a issue that the everyone can fix. Defense needs to be there more. They need to know where to be and where to be at what time. See all this can be fixed. Its not the end of the world. Luongo can get better, he just has to get back in his game, Defense could totally improve. Everyone can improve in their weak areas. The main thing I’ve noticed this year are the Sedin Twins. Iv never seen them shine this bright when they’re on the ice for their shift. They put their effort into every second of the time they play. They try, they want it which why we are also known as the Comback Kids, or Comeback Kings. Canucks can do it. It’s the beginnig of the season, We’ve got plenty of time, but one thing they’ve got too know is every game counts. Its not pre-season anymore, Its the start of the season. By the time you know it, Playoffs are around the corner. Fans can also be a great help to our boys, Also stay bright and show your support for them, cause without us, there would NOT be a Hockey Team like them! GO CANUCKS GO!

I think Luongo said it best – the team needs to relax. I’d look at getting the team together to kick it back, have some fun, build some chemistry, and then see if they can roll that on to the ice.
I can’t remember the exact season, but the Canucks were going through a swoon and after playing a lil’ pickup on a frozen lake/pond in Ontario, found that the game was supposed to be fun and began to add up the wins like there was no tomorrow.

Ahhhh! Totally want these tickets!
I think the number one thing the Canucks need to work on is teamwork. That means TRUSTING each other… Lou needs to trust his teammates and his defencemen and not try and do everything.
His defencemen need to trust that he is going to make the save.
Forwards need to trust each other to make the right passes so they can go full speed ahead and not try and pull themselves back to catch a wayward pass.
This means relaxing, having a few team events… and just loosening up. Have fun.
I’m definitely still ON the bandwagon…
Everyone is freaking out… it’s the first 3 games of the season. It’s going to be okay 🙂

I think it’s simple: Luo can’t be #37 in league save percentage for the Canucks to win consistently.
.820 just doesn’t cut it for the Canucks’s team leader. Roberto assuming his “November form” can’t come soon enough.
Here’s hoping that playing his beloved ‘Habs will get his competitive juices flowing in just the right way tonight.

I would let them just do what they’re doing. There are two areas that have been obviously not working… one is Luongo in goal. But Luongo will find his stride, and when he does, he’ll always give the Canucks a chance to win every night.
The Canucks have been outshooting their opponents by a long shot. So they’ve got the chances, but it’s the finish that’ missing. Some extra drills around the net would be good. Shirokov didn’t really meet expectations after a stellar preseason (making me pick him up and look like a doof). He had a number of chances he didn’t put in. But looks like moving Mason Raymond up to the 2nd line is working out.
From here, we just need to make sure guys don’t lose confidence and squeeze their sticks too much. Just take it easy and do their thing. The scoreboard will take care of itself.

The Canucks need to work on reducing poorly-timed penalties and their special teams. They had a terrible penalty kill leading up to this game. Did well capitalizing on the power plays against the Canadiens, though!
Luongo needs to bring his A game. Maybe not a stellar start to the season, but he’s always made the big saves when they needed.
Still a whole season ahead of us! 🙂

I’m glad the Canucks won finally. Maybe Gillis will retire his pony show of ridiculous allegations – allegations the league immediately dismissed against Burke. Perhaps Burke should file a defamation suit against Gillis for going to the press and calling Burke a tampering executive? Is that not hypocricy? He actually went on the radio and discussed a legal NHL matter with a sports radio show? How is that less intrusive than Burke discussing a “rumour” with his scouts five months ago that was caught on camera?
Gillis needs to drop the petty crap and focus on building around the cornerstone players that Burke and Nonis put in place for him. Maybe we should send you some more ex-Leafs? Want Jason Blake?!
ha ha.
