My Dad started taking me to Canucks games in the mid 50’s at the old PNE, those were the day when you took a blanket to keep warm in the building but rarely needed it as you could hear the hits, the grunts and puck hitting the crossbar. In those days and especially in 1969, led by Andy Bathgate, the Canucks were true and deserving champions. Since 1970 when fate dealt us Dale Tallon rather than Richard Martin, we have come up short. Golly, Hal Laycoe, Phil Maloney, Harry neale, riger Nielsen, Crow, Vigenault have all fallen short. As much as i love this tema, short of the 93-94 vwersion we have always lacked that true grit, yes we have Williams and Mcilhargey, Odjick and others but rarely have we seen a team on the West (Werst) Coast with “cojones” to get down and work through all the adversity that each team must accept to be true champions. Did Billy Smith or Ron Hextall (even Cloutier) put up with the kind of shenaningans Byflugien and his teammates were permitted i this series…NO!!!
I can only hope that this team learns what is needed beyond a couple of players is really needed to WIN!

Barry, you’re thinking Gilbert Perreault instead of Rick Martin, but I understand the confusion since they were both members of the French Connection line in Buffalo.
I went to the “stinker” of a game, but I’m at the same time encouraged by what I saw in game 5. Good grit, hustle, and discipline. If that team shows up for game 6, we’ll be heading back to Chicago.
EL KABONG!!
