Luongo’s Poem Exorcizes Shootout Demons

Luongo’s (lack of) prowess in the shootout is well-known.

Going into last night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, shooters were 5-for-5 in the shootout this season against the Canucks goaltender.

Luongo himself touched on it on his now famous poem on TSN.

65 minutes, then a stupid gimmick
Tarnishing my name after a 48-save game
5-on-5, I’ll keep you alive
4-on-4, you will not score
Then you, shootout, I despise you
I will not lie
Why couldn’t we just end it in a tie.

But maybe reciting that poem had an exorcizing effect. For the first since Luongo channeled his inner Emily Bronte, the Canucks went into the shootout and won. Not only that, Luongo stopped all 3 Ducks shooters (okay, 2 shooters – Selanne shot a lot wide – but we’ll take it) and the Canucks won 5-4.

I know TSN released another Luongo poem (on the Green Men) a couple of days ago. Maybe they have one on his puckhandling skills too.
