From Eric Francis:
As Hockey Night in Canada’s Glenn Healy and I discussed on The Hotstove Saturday, the Predators complained to the NHL about The Green Men who have taken up residence (and plenty of TV time) alongside the visitors’ penalty box at Rogers Arena.
A Predators spokesman denied any complaint was lodged, pointing out the spandex-clad duo did not attend Game 1 of the series, and both are doing nothing to interfere with play of the game.
However, the two animated characters who have been attending Canucks games since last Christmas wearing green body suits from head to toe admitted they were given a warning before showing up for Game 2.
“Someone through the NHL told us that we were no longer allowed to touch the glass,” said one of the two lads who go by the handles Force and Sully.
“This is the first complaint we’ve ever heard of. The Canucks love us. We haven’t done anything wrong. We pay full price, and we have a little fun while supporting our team.”
Speaking with a friend with some knowledge of the situation, apparently it’s not just the Preds who have complained; other teams have as well. Last night, arena management talked to them before the game but were told to just tone things down, not stop. So fret not, Canucks fans, the Green Men are here to stay, albeit maybe a bit tamer version.
Now that the league’s addressed this pressing issue and as well as the issue of octopus-throwing at Joe Louis Arena, maybe they’ll start addressing more pressing issues, you know, like inconsistent officiating and head shots.
