I’ve never been a huge AV fan. Some of his decisions make me tres annoyed and well I think at one point I wanted to email Gillis my head coaching resume. But anyways, on After Hours on Saturday AV sat there and defended Alex Burrows in such a steely, articulate, and lovely way it was absolutely wonderful. Ooooh talk about loyalty and standing by your players. CBC had just ripped Burrows at length in their intermission feature and AV calmly told them how wrong they were. I admit it, the Canucks head coach had me swooning. How nice for Burr to hear that after the week he had and I bet the other guys feel like AV will have their backs completely in the future as well. Not that he needs it, but AV has gained a huge amount of respect from me. What a stud.

Ron Mclean and CBC should be embarrassed at how biased they are. For a national broadcast, that was shameful. It’s obvious Burr made some mistakes handling this issue, but he didn’t deserve to have his character insulted so completely with not even a mention of Auger’s errors. Sure, Ron Mclean is a trained referee and of course will support Auger, but it was poor reporting and irritating to see when it looked like this drama was going to be put away.

Either way, this will be the last time I write about it. What a fun win against the Penguins, eh? I know the Penguins had the most rookie-est of goalies in net, but the offence looked positively murderous and sexy!

Welcome back Demo! I was starting to think he had run off and joined the circus. He seems like he would be a fetching lion tamer. Who knew Slovakian medical specialists could be such miracle workers? Maybe Sami Salo should see this dude as well. I believe Demo will play on the third line tonight with Hansen and Welly. Hansen will have to do all the dirty work but that gives them a little extra scoring punch. Hooray!

I don’t think I could adore this handsome crew of raggamuffins any more at the moment. I am crushing on the Canucks immensely right now. I daydream about going to the movies with them and whether or not our hands will touch when we both grab the popcorn at the same time. I secretly hope the Lightning come up to me and Rick Rypien when we’re out for dinner and Mermaid punches them out of jealousy. Every time they score a nice goal I giggle and blush. I still sometimes worry about their commitment issues (going long term in the playoffs) but right now I’m just having fun.

- Poor, poor Bieksa. I know he was having a pretty dismal year and everything but OUCH. How unlucky to have that sort of skate cut injury TWICE in three seasons.

- Shane baybee O’Brien has been playing SO well lately even the people that formerly couldn’t stand him are giving him all sorts of praise. It makes me delightfully happy.

- How insanely sexy is Alex Burrows right now? TWO hat tricks in A ROW? It’s ridiculous. Never. Even. Drafted. And he’s still so humble constantly talking up Hank and Danny for all his success. Rawrrrr. No one has ever had three consecutive hat tricks but how fun would it be if Burr did that against the Flames tonight?

- I am not a squeamish person at all (except when someone says the word moist) but how gross was watching poor Aaron Rome after that hit from Taylor Pyatt? There was blood everywhere. Poor button. Hopefully he’s not hurt too long. But Brad Lukowich gets to play which is nice for him being a BC boy and all. I loved Luko ever since training camp so good for him.

- I hate math and I hate numbers. Except for numbers that make my hockey team look hot. Here’s some numbers to coo over:

143 – goals the Canucks have scored this season. Only the Capitals, Hawks, and Sharks have scored more.

23 – the +/- of Christian “the Hoff” Ehrhoff to league the lead

61 – Hank Sedin’s points for the season. He’s in SOLE possession of the NHL scoring lead. Hank for HART!

1 – A white Mermaid jersey that is now in my possession.

5 – what the Canucks win streak could be if they beat the Flames tonight.

There were so many things to love about that game against the Flames. But I think my absolute favourite thing came out in the post game. Dan Murphy posted on twitter:

Mikael Samuelsson’s response to not making Swedish Olympic team. “They can go f**k themselves”. Not even kidding.

Heh.

I love that the Flames got booed off their own ice at the end of the game.

I love that they swept both Alberta teams on a back to back.

I love that Mason Raymond got his first NHL hat trick

I love that Bieksa had a fight and we saw some UnderArmour. Rawrrrrr.

I love that guys like Shane baybee O’Brien, Mermaid, and Hansen were getting power play time at the end of the game.

I love that the Canucks look like they’re getting on their usual post Christmas tear. PLAYOFFS!!!!1 here we come!

HOW DO YOU HAVE A PRETTY DAMN CONVINCING WIN AGAINST THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS AND THEN SKATE AROUND LIKE A BUNCH OF DIMWITS AGAINST ST.LOUIS AND LOSE NOT EVEN A CLOSE GAME AT ALL?

Just in case you need a refresher:

Washington – Has that Ovechkin guy who I hear is kind of good at hockey. Lead the NHL in goals scored with 130.

St. Louis – Last I checked were LAST in the Western conference. Were having a HECK of a time scoring goals. Andy Murray was sweating through his shirt because he was worried about getting fired.

Not to mention the fact that if you had won that game you would have jumped into 8th place in the conference. Just in case you boys have trouble with math like I do, THAT WOULD HAVE PUT YOU IN A PLAYOFF SPOT!

I mean today I was so ashamed of you I was like the girl dog in the Farside cartoon after her hubby peed on the carpet when they go to the dinner party at their dog friend’s place.

A fist bump to Shane Baybee O’Brien for scoring his first goal in 166 games and for generally busting his ass the whole game. He’s played absolutely wonderfully since that series of healthy scratches and frankly he deserved a win.

You are built to be a playoff team, you’re handsome, and you’re better than this. I’m just saying, start beating the teams below you in the standings or I will start flipping my hair and winking at Phoenix or Chicago.

You know that Seinfeld episode where George keeps talking about the “summer of George”? Recently as I watch Hank Sedin every game I’ve had the “season of Hank” running through my head.

The number of points he’s on pace for

See him there next to the red star? Third in scoring. In the WHOLE league. Ooooh la la!

Jason Botchford from the Province also had a fun stat on twitter today:

Crosby and Malkin combined – 76 points

Hank Sedin and Kes combined – 75 points

Pretty sexy, eh?

HA-NK! HA-NK! HA-NK! 2-4-6-8 who do we appreciate!

Hank

- The twins were fabulous again
- Lots of shots on net
- Secondary scoring! YAY!
- Shane baybee has been RAD since coming back into the lineup
- Burr and Kes were saucy

That’s about all I got really. Short and sweet. Oh and mermaid stole my heart once and for all. If I still believed in Santy Clause I would sit on his knee and ask for a Rypien jersey for Christmas. Stick in rink. Medium for hoodie wearing.

If you’ve read a few of my posts you’ve probably picked up on how I tend to compare the Canucks to a boyfriend/romantic relationship. After this road trip, however, I’ve noticed I’ve been thinking of them more like a parent would. A parent that knows their kid can do so much better but they just WON’T PLAY LIKE I KNOW THEY CAN. I realize that this metaphor is a little weird since usually I coo over how studly they are but this is where we are.

You also know by now how much I adore defence. After the first period in Nashville I wanted to weep and pull my hair out and fall back in dramatic fashion on my fainting couch with the vapours as handsome men fanned me and fed me grapes. The entire defensive core was stumbling around in their own zone for almost the full 20 minutes like they were chugging rum on the bench instead of gatorade and healthy electrolytes. It really was an insult to my eyes. Nashville just had the puck for way too long and the Canucks looked like getting out of their zone was like me trying to solve a math word problem. The PK was also just revolting. Whatever is being taught there, needs to be fixed. COME ON, boys. That is not the team I know and love.

I’m really glad Kes finally broke his goal scoring slump of 14 games because the poor boy had been beating himself up more than anyone but that was about it for good things in that game.

I know they were at the end of a road trip and were probably tired and all that stuff but when it comes down to it they HAVE TO START WINNING ON THE ROAD. That road trip sammiching the olympic break is not going to be a picnic, dudes. And even if you’re the best team in the league, you don’t get play all your playoff games at home. Maybe it’s time to figure out a different preparation plan for games on the road or something.

So, since we’re continuing this “Canucks are under performing kids” idea, here is a lesson plan for the Canucks so they can get back to their awesome adorable kick ass winning ways.

1) Find your happy place on the road. Bring your blankies, or teddies, or some Vancouver drift wood. You know, make sure you’re comfortable. Do some yoga. Watch a funny movie.

2) This one is hard for you guys I know but HIT. THE. NET. You got tons of shots in the Nashville game but I would also be rich if I got bills for every shot you had that missed. It really was ugly. Maybe throw up some bulls eyes in practice and have a cookie for every one you hit, OK?

3) SKATE. SKATE. SKATE. Wayyyy too many silly lazy penalties were taken on this road trip. I know I like bad boys, but not this bad, ya know?

4) Continue taking lovely handsome pictures while traveling around the globe. I still love you and I know you’re ready to turn a corner and start a winning streak.

If you follow this game plan, I’ll bake you some cupcakes and let you out of the corner and take off that dunce cap. I promise.

That was a delightfully fun game agains the Oilers last night, eh? The boys have really found their scoring touch the last little while. The Oilers are horribly injury ridden and everything but there was still some lovely work going on. I love that the defence is flying around and joining the rush. Hopefully they can play just as well against the Sharks tonight.

Anyways, just a quick post to direct you to Puck Daddy to read 5 reasons I love hockey
