RIP Paul Carson, Vancouver Sports Media Pioneer

It’s a sad day for Vancouver sports as we hear of the passing of Paul Carson after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

I didn’t know him personally, but we spent Christmases together through Sports Page’s Yulin’ with the Page year-end sports highlight package. And of course, he was instrumental in founding TEAM 1040, Vancouver’s first all-sports radio station.

RIP Paul. Thank you for what you’ve done to Vancouver sports and sports media. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

    I grew up on Sports Page and got to know Paul Carson as well as a 30 minute television show could provide. He was a stalwart in the local sports scene and will be thoroughly missed. Vancouver is a poorer city without him.

    I knew Paul from his early days in the sports broadcasting business in Victoria. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He was a special man. I will always picture him with that fabulous smile and laugh. Rick H. Victoria BC

    @Chris – It’s too bad Sports Page ended. It was truly a great show. I still remember getting out of my bed, sneaking out of my room and heading to the TV room a few minutes before 11:00 and after my parents have already fallen asleep. And to look at the list of current sportscasters who came from that show – Carson, BMac, CMac, Randorf, Taylor, Rintoul, McCormick, Price, Foxman, Eliott, Durant, Shorthouse, among others – I mean Sports Page was like the Detroit Red Wings farm system of sports broadcasting.
