This week I’m taking a break from my regular “Things That Make You Go Hmmm” column so I can reflect a bit more on my Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada experience from this past weekend.  The CHB crew had a great time at the Richmond Olympic Oval as we tweeted on-site, snapped pictures, took video and put together a few CHB TV episodes (including interviews with Trevor Linden and Jim Robson).

As we asked many attendees what their favourite hockey memories were, it got me thinking about mine.  I put them into my latest Clay’s Canucks Commentary and I threw in some pics from the event as well.

So I ask you, loyal CHB readers:  what is your favourite hockey memory?

This year, the Richmond Olympic Oval was the venue for the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada festivities in BC. On tap were many events: various ice hockey games of all levels, skills camps, ball hockey, street hockey, floor ball and many interactive displays and exhibits.

Armed with a camera, a mic and our BlackBerrys, Chris, Clay, Lizz and I proceeded to cover the event, and in the spirit of Hockey Day in Canada, talked to many of the people who attended, including some prominent members of the hockey community, and asked them about their favorite hockey memories.

First up, legendary Canucks broadcaster, Jim Robson:

This year’s Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada will be live from Prince Edward Island on Saturday, February 11, 2012. With the return of the Winnipeg Jets, SHDiC will feature no less than 4 NHL games involving all 7 Canadian NHL teams:

  • 11:00 AM – Edmonton Oilers at Ottawa Senators
  • 11:00 AM – Winnipeg Jets at Pittsburgh Penguins
  • 4:00 PM – Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs
  • 7:00 PM – Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames

Locally, the SHDiC folks are holding an event at the Richmond Olympic Oval and will feature appearances by Trevor Linden, Michael Buble and FIN. Planned events include: a jumbo screen to broadcast all HDIC games, a public road hockey tournament, an interactive fan zone and many interactive exhibits and displays.

Your CHB team will be there to cover the event so make sure to look out for us.
