Jody Shelley Suspended, Andrew Alberts Skating

Jody Shelley Suspended, Andrew Alberts Skating

Only two weeks after serving a two-game suspension for hitting Boston Bruin, Adam McQuaid, from behind, Jody Shelley was given another two-game suspension, this time for his sucker-punch on Andrew Alberts last night. For what it’s worth, Alberts was back skating with the Canucks today.

The .700 Club

The .700 Club

Fans and media are calling last night’s 6-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers a statement win. The Canucks themselves are calling it just another win. Let’s call it both. The Canucks now have 49 points (22-8-5) in 35 games – that’s an incredible 0.700 points percentage through almost half a season. To put this into perspective, the Canucks are on pace to reach 115 points. Not only is this President’s Trophy territory, but it’s a level only four teams have achieved since the lockout (Capitals, Bruins, Sharks and Red Wings, twice). With one game left against the Dallas Stars on...

Boxing Day at the Canucks Team Store

Boxing Day at the Canucks Team Store

The Canucks Team Store had their annual Boxing Day Sale today. Here are a few (unneeded) items they had available for sale: Jannik Hansen’s hands of stone – In the past 6 games since moving to the second line with Ryan Kesler and Jeff Tambellini, Hansen has 3 points (1 goal – 2 assists). I know it’s a modest 0.5 points per game average, but consider he had 7 points (2 goals – 5 assists) in the previous 28 games – a 0.25 points per game average. Tanner Glass’ plane ticket to Manitoba – The fourth line has seen a...

Merry Christmas from CHB

Merry Christmas from CHB

From everyone here at CHB, we’d just like to wish you all a happy, healthy and Merry Christmas. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Gillis snipping at Pratt and the Moj, Yuletide carols, “Win Da Turd”, sung by a choir, Blackhawks are the team we hate the most. Everybody knows a turkey and it’s a team from Toronto, Help to make the season bright. Sedin, Sedin and Burrows with their eyes all aglow, Made it hard for Mathieu Garon to sleep tonight. Bieksa knows that Sami Salo’s on his way; He’s loaded lots of band aids and crutches on his...

When Salo Returns

When Salo Returns

Before the Blues game the other night, Alain Vigneault gave a quick update on Sami Salo. With Salo back on the ice – he’s been skating on his own for a couple of weeks now – AV estimates it’ll probably be a month before he can join the rest of his ‘mates in practice and probably another 3-4 weeks of practice before he can get back in game shape. Add another couple of weeks of conditioning (maybe with the Moose?) and we’re probably looking at a mid-March return. (Man, that’s a lot of “probablys” in that timeline.) The timeline is...

RIP Paul Carson, Vancouver Sports Media Pioneer

RIP Paul Carson, Vancouver Sports Media Pioneer

It’s a sad day for Vancouver sports as we hear of the passing of Paul Carson after a battle with pancreatic cancer. I didn’t know him personally, but we spent Christmases together through Sports Page’s Yulin’ with the Page year-end sports highlight package. And of course, he was instrumental in founding TEAM 1040, Vancouver’s first all-sports radio station. RIP Paul. Thank you for what you’ve done to Vancouver sports and sports media. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family. ***** A quick trip down memory lane: Another one: (More Yulin’ with the Page here.)

Kevin Bieksa: For Better or For Worse

Kevin Bieksa: For Better or For Worse

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You’re at a bar and meet the woman of your dreams. She’s beautiful and bold. She was once named one of the most beautiful people in BC. And at the bar that night, she knocked out Fedor Fedorov. The first year you were together, she was everything you’ve ever wanted in a woman. She’s independent, like the times she joins the rush, and at the same time, vulnerable, like the times she depends on you to cover for her ill-timed pinches. 12 goals and 42 points later, you were in love. She was your...

The Green Men Talk Taunts and Stuff

The Green Men Talk Taunts and Stuff

Coming of their finest performance of the season during the Canucks vs. Leafs game on Saturday, The Green Men went on Puck Daddy Radio yesterday and talked about their taunts, antics, waffles and Vince Vaughn. In case you missed it:

Beat the Leafs and I’ll feel appreciated

Beat the Leafs and I’ll feel appreciated

It’s no secret that I don’t like the Leafs. Every season, when the NHL schedule comes out, I immediately circle the nights of the Leafs games. I’m not sure when my irrational hate for them started. Maybe it was after the Canucks beat them in 1994 en route to the Stanley Cup Finals. Maybe it was the year before that when I considered myself as much a Habs fan as a Canucks fan. Or maybe the hate came after being force fed Leafs games every freaking Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada. I’ll admit though that I haven’t minded...

What about a Pavel Bure Trophy?

What about a Pavel Bure Trophy?

Now that Markus Naslund’s jersey #19 has been raised to the Rogers Arena rafters, focus has shifted to whether or not Pavel Bure’s #10 belongs up there as well. As a Canuck, Pavel recorded two 60-goal seasons plus a 50-goal one. He totaled 478 points – 254 goals and 224 assists – in 428 games. He added 66 points – 34 goals and 32 assists – in 60 playoff games. His 1.12 points per game in the regular season and 1.10 points per game in the playoffs are franchise highs. Add the many highlight-reel plays and exuberant goal celebrations, and...
