Liveblogging the preseason: Canucks vs. Sharks

Liveblogging the preseason: Canucks vs. Sharks

After a so-so performance on Monday night, Cody Hodgson will get another chance tonight to prove he belongs in the bigs. He’ll line up with Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows in what will, in effect, be the Canucks’ top line. Elliott Pap (Vancouver Sun) has the rest of the lineup here. Grabner needs to get better

Grabner needs to get better

When I went to UBC to watch the first day of Canucks training camp, one of the things I immediately noticed was how frustrated Michael Grabner looked. His body language sagged and he muttered under his breath with every missed scoring chance – odd responses considering that he was coming off his best season in the AHL. His frustration and lack of confidence has obviously carried over into his preseason play. While guys like Mason Raymond, Sergei Shirokov, and to lesser extents, Cody Hodgson and Jannik Hansen have stood out positively in the last week or so, Grabner has grabbed...

Cory Schneider is starting tonight’s preseason game against the Flames and is scheduled to play the whole game. The other Schneider – Mathieu – has finally joined the boys for practice. Evan Oberg got the coach’s attention. Manitoba Moose training camp opens today. And yes, 42-year old Mike Keane is coming back. Canucks 7th round draft pick Steven Anthony gets a hat trick for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Liveblogging the preseason: Canucks vs. Oilers

Firstly, we received a few comments during the last couple of games that the livestream for the game wasn’t working properly. The Canucks have since advised us that the NHL has resolved the issues. If you want to watch the online stream of tonight’s game, you can go to: http://canucks.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=616&id=46716. Second, here is the Canucks’ anticipated lineup for tonight’s game (via Elliott Pap, Vancouver Sun): Mikael Samulesson – Cody Hodgson – Alex Bolduc Darcy Hordichuk – Ryan Kesler – Jannik Hansen Michael Grabner – Dave Scatchard – Mark Parrish Tanner Glass – Ryan Johnson – Matt Pope The following defensemen...

Damn it Hordichuk: A “How I Met Your Mother” reference

I’ll admit it, I’m a big – like really big – fan of the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother”. That one of the lead actresses, Cobie Smulders, is from Vancouver, and that the writers throw out a few Vancouver Canucks references, is a bonus. Here is the latest (via CDC): The full interview with Cobie Smulders is here.

Some of you know him from the VanCan Outta The Blue podcasts. In this part of the Canucks blogosphere, he’s simply Josh Hall. Josh is a current contributor to Canucks Corner. Here, he previews tonight’s preseason match-up against the Anaheim Ducks.

Canucks reduce training camp roster

Canucks reduce training camp roster

The Vancouver Canucks reduced their training camp roster by seven players today. Dan Gendur is going to the Manitoba Moose. Steven Anthony (Saint John Sea Dogs), Prab Rai (Seattle Thunderbirds), Morgan Clark (Swift Current Broncos) and Kellan Tochkin (Everett Silvertips) are going back to their junior teams. Nolan Toigo and Dusty Collins were released. No big surprises here, though I was hoping to see Tochkin and Anthony in a preseason game or two. But then again, with so many more roster decisions to be made before October 1st, I understand that it is best that the Canucks see more of...

The topic du jour is the Canucks’ depth on defense. With 10 defensemen on one-way contracts, the competition to be one of the top-6 or even top-8 is fierce. And plus, there’s some Cody Hodgson stuff. Alain Vigneault loves the internal competition. Brad Lukowich may be a victim of the numbers game. With Mathieu Schneider and Christian Ehrhoff, the Canucks added some power to their powerplay. Shane O’Brien wants to make it hard on the Canucks to cut him. It’s pronounced Hod-son; the ‘g’ is silent. Cody Hodgson is back skating with the big boys.
