Canucks at Kings Game Day Preview: Royal Pains

Canucks at Kings Game Day Preview: Royal Pains

If the playoffs started today, guess who the Canucks will play in the first round. That’s right. None other than the defending champions, the Los Angeles Kings.

The team is battered and bruised, but made it to Phoenix. Well most of them did. Steve Pinizzotto and Zack Kassian did not. Chris Higgins did, but tweaked his back in the morning and couldn’t play. At this point they really just need to hold on and bubble wrap everyone. At all times.

Still trying to get last night’s game out of our minds, we’re provided the best tonic – a game the following night against St. Louis rolling in hot. "3 shots in twenty minutes" sounds like a really crappy drinking game. — Don Falconer (@TheFalconer) March 20, 2013 SOCIABLE!!

The Canucks were back home against the Nashville Predators, having stumbled to and from Ohio, and were looking to set the tone for their second half journey in the shortened NHL season. So what kind of game did we see? If Andrew Alberts scores, I will go streaking #tgatt @lyteforce — G. Justine Galo (@Aviewfromabroad) March 15, 2013 Alberts almost scoring and people going streaking. Who knew Chris could be a trendsetter?

Clay’s Canucks Commentary: Exacting Revenge on the Blue Jackets and Cam Barker’s Offensive Prowess

Clay’s Canucks Commentary: Exacting Revenge on the Blue Jackets and Cam Barker’s Offensive Prowess

With a 2-1 shootout victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus, the Canucks were able to avenge last week’s 2-1 overtime defeat to the same team in the same arena. This time, highlights included the strong goaltending of Roberto Luongo and Mason Raymond’s spin-o-rama goal in the shootout. In this video, I touch on Roberto Luongo’s strong game, David Booth’s aggressive play, Alex Burrows sliding into Luongo, boarding penalties, the goaltending situation, Cam Barker’s offensive prowess, and Tom Sestito’s decreasing playing time.

Mired in a 3-game losing slump, the Canucks called a team meeting prior to facing the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night. Did it work? So they don't take an early penalty, but give up an early goal. Brutal. #Canucks down 1-0 just 24 seconds in. #TGATT — Canucks Hockey Blog (@canuckshockey) March 11, 2013 Ummm…

Clay’s Canucks Commentary: Making Matt Calvert Look Like Sidney Crosby

Clay’s Canucks Commentary: Making Matt Calvert Look Like Sidney Crosby

I look at the good, the bad, and the interesting from the Canucks’ 2-1 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets from Thursday, March 7 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The Canucks tied the game in the early stages of the third period, only to have Matt Calvert channel his inner Sidney Crosby in overtime – going around both Henrik Sedin and Alex Edler on the winning goal. In the video, I touch on Cory Schneider, the defensive pairing of Jason Garrison and Dan Hamhuis, our lack of scoring, the poor effort on the game-winning goal, and the Canucks’ less-than-stellar...

Canucks Review and Preview: March 4 to 10, 2013

Canucks Review and Preview: March 4 to 10, 2013

You can say the Canucks had a week that has been typical of their NHL season so far – if there’s one thing this team has shown through their first 21 games, it’s that they’ve been consistent in their inconsistency.

In a grudge match of sorts, the Canucks host the Los Angeles Kings for the first time since the Kings eliminated them in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Opened a beer. Now THIS is a game. THIS I've missed. #playlikewinners #playlikechampions #TGATT @canucksgame — Arielle Tuliao (@ajtuliao) March 3, 2013 Hockey, check. Beer, check. Here we go.

Clay Imoo (@canuckclay) will be recapping every Vancouver Canucks game with a quick post-game video commentary.  As a start, Clay looks at the good, the bad, and the interesting from the Canucks’ 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings from March 2 at Rogers Arena. In the video, Clay touches on the Canucks’ top 2 scoring lines, Cory Schneider’s suspect puck-handling, the benching of Keith Ballard, the debut of new enforcer Tom Sestito, and the LA Kings twitter account.
