Clay’s Canucks Commentary: Bad Weather, Bad Discipline and Ballard’s Benching

Clay’s Canucks Commentary: Bad Weather, Bad Discipline and Ballard’s Benching

I look at the good, the bad, and the interesting from the Canucks’ 4-2 defeat to the Calgary Flames from Sunday, March 3 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. Having arrived in snow-laden Calgary just 2 and a half hours before face-off, the Canucks played hard in the first period but wilted as the game wore on. In the video, I touch on Jannik Hansen, David Booth, early penalties, Roberto Luongo, the Canucks’ lack of discipline, bad weather, Tom Sestito and another benching of Keith Ballard.

In a grudge match of sorts, the Canucks host the Los Angeles Kings for the first time since the Kings eliminated them in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Opened a beer. Now THIS is a game. THIS I've missed. #playlikewinners #playlikechampions #TGATT @canucksgame — Arielle Tuliao (@ajtuliao) March 3, 2013 Hockey, check. Beer, check. Here we go.

You Be The Judge: Hansen’s Hit on Hossa

Photo gif from HF Boards Jannik Hansen rightfully received a penalty for this hit on Marian Hossa tonight. But after the game, there was talk that Jannik Hansen may be facing a hearing as well. From what I can see here, Hossa was skating backwards, Hansen was coming from the side, and both players reached for the puck. Perhaps Hansen was reckless in that he ended up hitting Hossa (and hence, the penalty). But a hearing and a potential suspension? What am I missing?

The Canucks and Wild don’t like each other much, but the only real fight tonight was the fight to stay awake while watching it. The lovely and talented Lizz Moffat has a scholarly obligation and her usual substitute, @lyteforce, is busy riding around the Sky Train in his underwear so you’ve got me tonight! Bachelor life starts now. When do the pants come off? Now on the train or at home? — Chris Golden (@lyteforce) February 13, 2013 Ummm… we better just get to the game.

The Canucks are in Minnesota, the second – and last – stop of their mini two-game road trip. Zach Parise would now like his name to be pronounced ‘Par-easy’. Obviously, everyone makes fun of him for his pronunciation preferences. Is it just me or are Shorty & Cheech saying "Pareasy" as much as possible? #trollingParise #TGATT #CanucksG10 — doubleLuonGOLD (@luonGOLD) February 8, 2013 Dale Weise would like his last name pronounced "Gretzky" claims Dale. — Wyatt Arndt (@TheStanchion) February 8, 2013 Remember when Cody Hodgson tried to correct all of our pronunciations of his last name? Good times.
