I Watched This Game: Canucks 4 – 1 Maple Leafs

[I Watched This Game is a recurring feature at Pass it to Bulis, the hockey blog that knows who needs the puck. It chronicles the insights and observations of two guys who watched a hockey game. To view all the other wonderful stuff PITB does, visit Pass It To Bulis.] Leading up to this game, the 4pm start time was a bone of contention among Canucks fans. Ever afraid of The Eastern Bias, an elusive swamp monster (pictured) that feeds on national inequality, many claimed the afternoon puck drop gave the Maple Leafs an unfair advantage. But thankfully, the Canucks...

Incredibly, last night was already Ryan Kesler’s fourth multi-goal game of the season, the 13th of his career. However, despite his propensity for scoring in bunches (like a blaxploitation hero), Kesler had yet to net three goals in sixty minutes....

Henrik has 4 more assists than any other player; Daniel is 5th in the league in goals. They’ve been among the top ten...

It should...

Bieksa needs to get his “boom-boom” back

Bieksa needs to get his “boom-boom” back

The Canucks’ blueline is taking a beating early in the season. They lost Sami Salo in the offseason, and then Keith Ballard and Dan Hamhuis shortly after the season started (though Ballard is expected to be a game-time decision for tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils), and there are reports that Andrew Alberts twisted his knee against Colorado (he’ll play tonight) and Ryan Parent suffered a mild groin strain at Sunday’s practice. It’s only November 1st and already the Canucks are starting to see just how much blueline depth they really have. With the defence falling apart left right...

Ask Katie about the Canucks: October 25, 2010 Edition

[Every Monday, Katie Maximick takes your questions and answers them in her own cantankerous style. If you have any questions about the Canucks, send it to her via Twitter (@canucksgirl44)] In this week’s edition of “Ask Katie about the Canucks”, Katie responds to your questions on fan altercations, veteran leadership, secondary scoring, inconsistent play – *ahem Kevin Bieksa ahem* and the Canucks’ goaltending controversy waiting to happen. Merina asks: Do you think that the NHL should implement a rule where arenas need to build protective barriers between fans and players as they come on and off the ice? Who’s responsible...

Same Time, Same Place

Same Time, Same Place

After 7 games last season, the Vancouver Canucks had 6 points (3-4-0). After the first 7 games this season, they have – yes you guessed it – 6 points (2-3-2). The Canucks aren’t scoring as much but they’re not allowing as many goals against either. Given this, it’s probably not surprising that their powerplay isn’t as good but their penalty kill is better. As much criticism as Luongo has received in the last couple of days, his save percentage after the Canucks’ first 7 games is slightly higher this season (6 GP, 1-3-2, 175 shots against, 0.903 save%) than it...

If you have any questions about the Canucks, send it to her via Twitter (@canucksgirl44)] In this week’s edition of “Ask Katie about the Canucks”, Katie talks about the shootout, shrugs off the Leafs, and picks the better ‘stache between Harold Snepsts and Dave Babych. Ed asks: Is his change in technique making Luongo better in the game but worse during shootouts? Katie: Honestly I think Luongo’s never been really strong in the shootout. His new goalie coach Roland Melanson has pushed Lu to adopt...

Canucks vs. Kings: Opening Night Smorgasbord

Canucks vs. Kings: Opening Night Smorgasbord

Amidst much anticipation, elevated expectations and dreams of the team’s first Stanley Cup, the puck finally drops tonight for the Vancouver Canucks’ 2010/2011 season. Can the Canucks live up to their top billing or will they wilt faster than Kate Gosselin’s career? They won’t answer those questions tonight. This team will be judged on the games they play this spring. But they need to get there first, and tonight is step one of that process. As we count down the minutes to game time, here are some links to tide you over: The Canucks and Kings face off against each...

Lisa asks: “If you could choose any player in the NHL and put him on the Canucks, who would it be and who would you play him with?” Katie: I bet every body would be jumping...
