Schedule day was on Wednesday and what a lovely day it was! I know, I’m a little bit behind. This off season is harshing my blogging mellow. There’s only so many fresh ways you can talk about free agents and trade rumours, right? Anyways, the schedule, eh?. Ohhhhh. When I first saw it I almost hugged my lappy top screen. It’s sooooo pretttty.
As J.J. and Richard have already mentioned, the travel is actually much better than last year’s schedule. Sure, there’s the massive Olympic road trip, but with the break in between it won’t be that bad. I hope there will be juicy gossip about the pillow fights between room mates turning grouchy the longer the road trip goes. I’m a little bit sad there’s no home game in February because that, dear lovelies, is my birthday month but I’ll get by.
This is shocking but the road trips actually make logical sense. There’s no ping ponging from New York to Minnesota back to Pittsburgh for some ridiculous 11 am game which ends with the superstar goalie straining the shit out of his baby making machine. Thank Swede for small delights. Gillis and his team of military bad ass sleep experts must have talked some sense into Bettman and the schedulers. Maybe Gillis took some of the military men with him to the meetings. That would certainly scare me straight. And Bettman’s even smaller than I am.
Games I’m cooing over
I love, love, love that we get to open and close the season playing the Flames. The opening game last year was one of my absolute favourite games of the year and the way these two teams play in the division chances are the division title will come down to that last game.
Canucks/Blackhawks Oct 21/Nov 22/Jan 23/Mar 5. Odds are I’ll get to swoon over another line brawl in at least one of these games. We can only hope Bieksa’s UnderArmour ripping becomes a team wide epidemic.
Canucks/Leafs Oct 24/Jan 30. I….have a confession to make…*small voice* I adore the Leafs. There I said it. Just a little bit. They have Luke Schenn! And they’re kind of a charming group of gents in general. I’m hoping I can afford to fly to Toronto for the game in January. There we are. I feel so much better now that’s it out in the open.
Canucks/Lightning. OHLIE!!! Although, I’m super annoyed they couldn’t have had the Lightning come to Vancouver. I want to see my lovely former Canucks boyfriend at home! Why is the NHL schedule not all about me? Just a thought, February 9th is awfulllly close to my birthday. Tampa is sunny. I’m sure there are cheap flights. (hint, hint, nudge, nudge) Speaking of Ohlie, did you see this glowing article about him on the Lightning website? *Sniff tear*
Something to rage about because it wouldn’t be the NHL schedule without a little bit of rage
The Canucks have five games at 12 pm or earlier. Two of them are at 10 and 10:30. On a SATURDAY. What is this nonsense? I can barely remember my own name before noon on a Saturday. I like to roll around in my blankets and mumble that someone should bring me a coffee IV. Plus, the darling men actually playing hockey couldn’t possibly have enough time to warm up the muscles. The poor little buttons are calling out for injuries.
A couple of final unrelated asides: 1) I thought the Canucks signed Mike Funk. Why is his name not listed on the roster? 2) On Monday I’m starting the playoff bracket to determine my new Canucks boyfriend. On ice and off ice factors will be taken into account. Votes would be useful, so starting Monday drop by and leave a comment if you’re dying to see one of these strapping men move on to round 2.
