2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs – Round 1 Predictions

The 2015 NHL playoffs are drastically different than they have been in recent years, and it’s exciting! Five out of seven Canadian-based NHL teams are in the hunt this year. For the first time since 2007, a defending Stanley Cup champion failed to make the playoffs. Another big change – and without a doubt my favorite – the Boston Bruins have missed the playoffs.

After their first loss of the calendar year against the Los Angeles Kings on New Year’s Day, the Canucks were look to bounce back against the Detroit Red Wings (although they’ve been winless in their last 3 outings against them). Jocelyn Aspa recaps the game in your tweets.

The Canucks are riding high on a three-game winning streak as they prepare to take on Ryan Miller’s hometown Detroit Red Wings on a wintery Sunday morning game. Lizz Moffat recaps the game in your tweets.

2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Best and Worst of Round 1

2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Best and Worst of Round 1

Round 1 in over. There were sweeps, there were reverse sweeps, there was choking and man, was there a lot of overtime. Here is my breakdown of the best and worst of Round 1 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Best Series: Sharks vs. Kings Because when you manage to pull off a Reverse Sweep – only the 4th in NHL history, you’ve earned the best series title. To be fair, the competition was steep for this too. The Habs sweeping a Lightning team with Stamkos on it was pretty noteworthy and the nail-biting; Avs and Wild is also worth...

CHB First Round Playoffs Prediction Post

CHB First Round Playoffs Prediction Post

With the puck ready to drop for the 2014 NHL playoffs, a few of us at CHB make our predictions for the first round. At least with the Canucks not making it, we can make our picks with our brains, rather than our hearts. Well, mostly our brains. We flipped coins, drew straws and other things too. Western Conference Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild Victoria: Avalanche in 5. This prediction is based on the real fear that if Minnesota makes it too far in the playoffs we’ll all fall into a coma. Most boring hockey ever. So come on Avs,...

The Game According to Twitter: Canucks 0 at Red Wings 2

Just when you didn’t think the Canucks could play any worse, they put together a listless effort like last night’s against the Detroit Red Wings. After some woeful losses over the last month, they should’ve been buoyed by coach John Tortorella’s return from his 15-day suspension or by captain Hank Sedin’s return from injury. Instead, they put up little fight, getting shut out 2-0 by the Wings, the third time they’ve been shut out in their last 11 games. More like SOUR play, amirite? #ugh #tgatt #Canucks — Justin Abraham (@justinabraham) February 3, 2014

Game Day Preview Canucks vs. Red Wings: Welcome Back, Torts

After serving his 15-day suspension for going off the rails, er, “off the country” against the Calgary Flames, Canucks head coach John Tortorella is back behind the bench tonight as they face the Detroit Red Wings for the second and final time this season. It probably couldn’t have come at a better time either, with the team struggling and losing playoff ground. Not too long ago, the Canucks seemed firmly in a wild card playoff spot, even threatening to overtake the Los Angeles Kings for 3rd place in the Pacific Division, but thanks to their 4-9-2 record in January are...

The Game According to Twitter: Canucks 1 vs. Red Wings 2

An Original Six team, games against the Detroit Red Wings are usually entertaining and exciting. With the Wings now in the Eastern Conference, they only get to visit Rogers Arena once a year so, needless to say, Canucks fans were looking forward to last night’s affair. Did it live up to it’s billing? Are we sure we're watching the #Canucks play the Red Wings? Sure doesn't feel like it. #TGATT — Walter Siu (@waterboy99troop) October 31, 2013 Oh, come on. It wasn’t that bad, was it?

Canucks vs. Red Wings Game Day Preview: Welcoming the Wings Back to the West

Luongo looks to remain calm, cool and collected against the forceful red wings tonight in Vancouver. (Credit thescore.com) Formerly bonded by the Western Conference, the Canucks look to take on the struggling Detroit Red Wings tonight at 7:30 PM. The Red Wings, having won only 6 of their last 12 games, seem like easy pickings for the Canucks. However, the Red Wings won 2 of 3 games in the season series last season and outscored the Canucks 14-7. Detroit is in for a ride with the always interesting, Tortorella-driven team, the Canucks will get the early lead tonight in Vancouver....

2013/2014 NHL Season Preview: Atlantic Division

2013/2014 NHL Season Preview: Atlantic Division

On the eve of the start of the 2013/2014 NHL regular season, I preview the 30 teams, one division at a time. Photo credit: Sportsnet Boston Bruins The Good It’s scary to think, but the Bruins, which made the Stanley Cup Finals last year, may have added some more pop to their offense. Not only is their core is largely intact, with David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron coming off healthy seasons, but the B’s also replaced the injury-prone, Nathan Horton, with 25+ goals winger, Loui Eriksson, and 41-year old Jaromir Jagr with a slightly-younger but extremely-motivated Jarome Iginla. The Bad...
